The Tulikonge Water Express was inaugurated at Katima Mulilo  in the Zambezi Region to supplement government efforts in water transport.

The boat, valued at more than N$670,000, was assembled out of the desire for affordable recreation and transportation for residents of Katima Mulilo and the region at large.

The boat was assembled locally with local materials, partially funded by the government through the Ministry of Trade and Industrialization, with more than N$201,000 used to purchase one of the two engines and other materials.

The Tulikonge Water Express Manager, Ace Mutelo, appreciated the funding from the government and assistance from the Zambezi Regional Council.

Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu urged the owners of the Tulikonge Express, including the workers, to ensure that passengers remain safe while on board.

He stressed the use of life jackets as a must while calling on beneficiaries of government aid to always ensure that they use the funds donated for their intended purpose.

The Zambezi Reginal Governor congratulated all those who were part of the initiative and provided assistance to the owners, such as the government, the Regional Council, and the Katima Mulilo Town Council.

Such efforts demonstrate the Swapo-led government's resolve to achieve social and economic transformation as intended in its manifesto and national development programmes, said Sampofu.
