Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila is concerned that despite the government's welfare programme, there are still vulnerable children who do not have support.
Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said this during a fundraising dinner for orphans and vulnerable children at Divundu in the Mukwe Constituency.
The premier pointed out that government has in the past financial year provided grants to close to 200,000 senior citizens.
50,000 people with disabilities and over 8,000 have been assisted through a "conditional basic income grant to the tune of N$5 million.
Government forks out about N$763 million per annum towards social grants for people with disabilities, while the old age grant stands at N$3 billion.
Close to 350,000 OVCs benefit from social grants of N$1 billion per annum.
"I am moved to note that despite this huge welfare program that our government implemented on a yearly basis, there are still many vulnerable children that are not reached with this support and they have to go through so many hardships. I hope that we will work together as a community to ensure that we identify all those that are in need so that they are supported but most importantly, we pull our resources as a government and as individuals to make sure that they are supported."
The Prime Minister applauded the Mukwe OVCs and youth support services for coming up with initiatives to meet the government halfway.
The Councillor of Mukwe Constituency Damian Maghambayi says a lack of national documents is one of the challenges hindering some Namibians from benefiting from the government grants.
"Some of them is ranging from people acquiring national documents because the government has programmes of social welfare but how do you participate in that program if you don't have national documents, those are some of the issues that are also challenging the inhabitants of this constituency but lucky enough."
Aron Mundany the Executive Director of Mukwe OVC says the organisation has started assisting people to acquire national documents.
Beneficiaries of the Mukwe OVC Mushekele Daniel says he dropped out of school due to lack of funds but with the assistance of Mukwe OVC he is now at the tertiary level.
The Mukwe Orphans and vulnerable children dinner, which attracted people from all walks of life, raised over N$80,000.
Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila through her office pledged N$10,000.
