The Windhoek Rural Constituency handed over income-generating equipment to the value of N$225,000 to eight beneficiaries at Groot Aub.
Among the beneficiaries were 26-year-old Deotaurus Rooi and his 25-year-old nephew Dennis Rooi who own a funeral undertaking - Isaria Funeral Services.
The duo started their business about four years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic, as a way to assist the Groot Aub community in burying their loved ones.
The business currently employed five people and received equipment worth N$50,000.
"Starting our business we faced a lot of challenges, we didn't have vehicles to transport, and we needed machinery equipment such as lowering devices, so we had to travel out to borrow equipment to operate our funeral services for the burial. Receiving this equipment really means a lot to us this is just the best thing that ever happened."
Handing over the equipment was the Councillor of Windhoek Rural Constituency.
Piet Adams noted that the Income Generating Activity grant aims to encourage community members to embark on projects that will contribute to economic development, and employment and that eventually help eradicate poverty within the constituency.
"The approved projects range from tailoring, funeral undertaking services, poultry, brick laying, salon, butchery, catering and printing services, today the lowest funded project will receive materials valued at N$20,000 and the highest project will receive the material valued at N$50,000."
He revealed that the Windhoek Rural Constituency was allocated N$250,000 for its Income Generating Activity grant budget during the 2022/2023 budget, and of this budget, N$225,000 was spent on the funding of eight projects.
"The project application forms were distributed to community members in the constituency for them to apply for the grant, 81 applicants applied, however, during the selection procedures not all projects could be considered for funding because some did not meet the funding requirements, as a result, eight projects were approved to benefit from this budget."
Councillor Adam also handed over sanitary pads to women of the Groot Aub.
