The residents of the four northern regions were also affected by the power outages initiated by NamPower yesterday.
The town of Ondangwa was the first to face the consequences of NamPower, as their electricity was disconnected shortly after 17h00.
Subsequently, power cuts were implemented in Ongwediva, Oshikuku, Eenhana, Outapi, and other towns and villages.
The power supply was restored at 21h00, causing frustration among residents who argue that they have prepaid electrical meters and should not be penalized for debts owed by NORED.
Hospitals and certain local university campuses were unaffected as they had backup generators. Residents resorted to using candles and generators to power their homes.
The Ondangwa Town Council has informed its residents about potential disruptions in water and sewer reticulation services.
This is due to the fact that pump stations at water reservoirs operate on electricity and will be impacted by the power cuts.
The town of Oshakati was exempt from the power cuts as it receives its electricity supply from Oshakati Premier Electricity.
In the meantime, NORED has issued a press release affirming that the matter is receiving significant attention from its board of directors and management. Engagements with NamPower are currently in progress.
The media statement concluded with the following statement: "Despite not settling their debts with NamPower, NORED remains dedicated to providing quality and reliable electricity at all times."
