The National Assembly has made progress in passing urgent Bills crucial to preventing potential greylisting by the Financial Action Task Force.

Out of the thirteen pressing Bills, eight have already been passed and referred to the National Council for review.

The urgency to pass these Bills stemmed from the June 30th deadline, which was set to prevent Namibia from being graylisted.

In responding to an urgent oral question from PDM's Maximalliant Katjimune on Thursday, the Minister of Finance, Iipumbu Shiimi, urged fellow members to collaborate and pass as many Bills as possible to avoid such a fate.

On Friday, two of the remaining five Bills were expected to be passed.

However, due to a lack of quorum, Speaker Professor Peter Katjavivi had to defer their approval to Monday.

According to Immanuel Nehoya, the Deputy Director at the National Assembly Secretariat, the Lower House aims to pass four out of the remaining five Bills on Monday.

These Bills will then be promptly referred to the Upper House for review.

The last remaining Bill is expected to be passed on Wednesday, leaving no room for further delays.
