The Omaheke Region is endowed with resources to grow, produce, and feed its own people and beyond.
In his 4th State of the Region Address, the region's governor urged the inhabitants to strive for prosperity, embark on innovative ways, and enter into partnerships to ensure self-sustainability.
The Omaheke State of the Region Address comes as the region recorded a staggering number of 45 children who have died from malnutrition-related conditions since January.
This points to the need for the region to put measures in place to ensure that the agriculture sector is fully explored to better the lives of the residents, and Omaheke has all the resources for it.
"My dream is to have a society, a region, and a country in which everyone is accorded equal opportunities; a region in which no child wonders where his or her next meal will come from. When I close my eyes, I see every child in Omaheke having strong, white, healthy teeth. I see every child having a glass of milk produced in Omaheke. I envisage every child having a bright smile, a smile of happiness," said Nganate.
Speaking under the theme "Reviving Omaheke's full potential through innovation and smart partnerships," Nganate spelled out the significance and intentions of the first Pillar on effective governance.
"To ensure effective governance, the provision of public services remains one of the government's key roles. With this in mind, strengthening service delivery, improving performance, and ensuring efficient and effective governance are and will remain its greatest prerequisites. I am therefore pleased to report that the Otjinene Village and Leonardville Village Council, in their effort to promote effective growth and development, is in the process of developing its first-ever 5-year strategic plan."
Omaheke is one of the regions that declared severe drought due to the poor rains received.
Livestock market prices and conditions have also dropped.
Although the inhabitants derive their livelihood predominantly from agriculture, the sector cannot provide work to the majority of job seekers as the overall unemployment rate hits 34%.
