The Nambia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has expressed concern over the minimal contribution of the fishing sector in taxes.

Its Board members and Executive Management paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob at State House.

The fishing sector is one of Namibia's key contributors to the Gross Domestic Product, yet its contribution to the taxman is one of the lowest.

As of March this year, NamRA had collected about N$57 billion in taxes, and the sector accounts for only about 2%.

NamRA says it is determined to unearth the reasons for the mismatch, including investigations into compliance by stakeholders in the Fishing sector.

Fisheries is not the only sector that NamRA is going after.

NamRA this year named and praised the top tax contributors, with Debmarine being the largest with N$3 billion, while the First National Bank comes in second with N$817 million.

President Geingob commended NamRa's leadership for improving the country's tax collection processes.

The President requested that NamRA's top management attend the decision-making Cabinet session next week.
