NamRA donates braille booklets to Namibian Federation of the Visually Impaired

To make sure that no one is left behind in terms of accessing information, the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) donated 120 braille booklets to the Namibian Federation of the Visually Impaired (NFVI).

The donation consists of a customs procedure with traveller's guide information and the taxation of individuals.

The Commissioner at NamRA, Sam Shivute, says the donation aims to build an inclusive society and allow visually impaired people easy access to information.

NamRA's operational efficiency questioned

Employees in tax refund scam left in the cold

The hopes of a group of taxpayers who approached the High Court to temporarily stop the Namibia Revenue Agency from deducting money from their salaries have been dashed.

Close to 1,000 employees are believed to be involved in a tax refund scam running into millions of dollars.

The applicants wanted the High Court to temporarily stop deducting their funds and to pay back what had already been deducted.

The applicants also lodged a constitutional challenge over the validity of certain provisions of the Income Tax Act of 1981.

Massive criminal syndicate appears in Windhoek Magistrate's Court

The 14 people arrested in a swoop operation on October 4 on charges of transnational internet fraud and trafficking in persons appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court this afternoon.

The case was postponed to February 15, 2024 for further investigations, and bail was refused to all.

Of those arrested, many of those deemed foreigners were indicated on the charge sheet as being Namibian citizens.

The accused were arrested at several properties across Winhoek in a late-night swoop on October 3.

NamRA on import procedures

The Namibia Revenue Agency has emphasised the import procedures for commercial and non-commercial goods in a public notice that has been circulated on social media in an effort to educate importers.

NamRA has released a public notice outlining important procedures related to various goods from non-Southern African Customs Union (SACU) member states.

Commercial goods valued at N$500 or more, subject to duty as per Schedule 1 of the Customs and Excise Act, must be paid upon importation into SACU.

NamRA opens satellite office at Opuwo

Opuwo Mayor Rosa Mbinge Tjeundo has commended the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) management for opening a satellite office at Opuwo.

Tjeundo, who was speaking at a stakeholder consultation, said residents have been relieved of travel costs to acquire services.

Previously, NamRA only had an office in Khorixas, which was closer to the residents who resided in the southern part of Kunene Region, while those in the north used to travel to Oshakati, which was a costly exercise for them.

Loss of revenue derails development of country

The Executive Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Tylvas Shilongo, says loss of revenue does not only deprives the state of revenue but also derails the development of the country.

Shilongo highlighted this during the handover of the NamRa Domestic Taxes Western Region Report at Walvis Bay.

Shilongo says revenue collected through taxes assists in providing healthcare services, addressing housing needs, education, and many other services to the population.
