The Regional and Urban Planning Board has provisionally approved the formalisation of existing townships within Berseba Village in ||Kharas Region.
Raymond Jossop, Acting Village Council LED Manager, revealed this at the Regional Development Coordination Committee meeting at Keetmanshoop.
Due to unproclaimed town land, residents were denied housing bonds and loans by banks as they did not have title deeds.
A title deed is a legal document by which the right of ownership of land or other property is transferred to someone.
The imminent proclamation of the townships is expected to boost the village's economy.
"We will receive our final approval in writing after the meeting that is slated for the end of July, so there is one part that will help Berseba out of the issue of not being able to attract investment to Berseba locality because people come there with money in their front pockets, but when the deal is about to be sealed and they ask for the documents such as the title deeds and stuff, that's here we cannot go beyond that as the result of this challenge we faced before."
Jossop says the council has also allocated land to the Berseba Food Basket Project with funding from the World Food Programme (WFP), which started crop production and poultry farming to cushion unemployment in the village.
Plans are also at an advanced stage for setting up a Police Station in the village to address crime.
