Otavi Town Council has launched its three-month mass clean-up campaign to help it create a sustainable waste management system that will ensure a clean environment that is appealing to investors.
The town council will be joined by volunteers during the daily clean-up campaign.
Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua officially launched the campaign.
'We recognise and appreciate your efforts. Our clean-up campaign is important; your town needs to get back to glory. Let us attract investors through a clean town, through a town that gives hope, through a town that gives courage, through a town that lures investors and people to come on board and say, Yes, indeed, I want to go to Otavi and go see what is happening in Otavi."
Otavi Mayor Isaac !Hoaeb says the campaign is part of the town's dream to address issues of housing, basic services in informal areas, land delivery, the creation of infrastructure, and SME development.
"And because of that, we have decided to embark on a mass cleanup campaign that will change the image of our town. During that time, we have sat together and worked on our dream, the Otavi dream. We have decided, as Otavians, that let's come together and dream of the ideal Otavi that we want to see. What is that Otavi that we can all be proud? What is this Otavi that we can call home? What is that Otavi that can attract investors? Let's dream about that Otavi, and let's create that Otavi."
As stakeholders in the town, B2Gold pledged to set up refuse bins around the town, while Olthaver and List Fresh Farm will provide fresh produce combos to the campaign volunteers.
