A Namibian visual artist, Laimi Mbangula, received a second prize from more than 2,000 African applicants, who took part in the 'My Dream' painting competition.

The event was organised by Chinese organisations.

41 Namibians participated in the competition, and five were shortlisted.

Mbangula's painting, which won the second prize, symbolises the long-lasting friendship between Namibia and China.

The second prize winner received a trophy with a cash prize of $6,000, while the other four shortlisted candidates received $3,000.

Quatrue April came all the way from Warmbad, a settlement situated in the southern part of Karasburg, to receive his prize.

He says he now has a better understanding that art has the ability to take one far and will continue to pursue it and motivate his fellow youth in the settlement to do the same.

The Secretariat of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the China Manned Space Engineering Office co-hosted the competition.
