The Minister in the Presidency, Christine ||Hoebes, says there is a need to promote and preserve cultural and traditional norms among communities.
||Hoebes made this remark at the official launch of the #Nisa Daramadī dress, loosely translated as proud Gobabis women's dress.
||Hoebes says a person is identified by their culture, and events such as the Damara dress should be used to foster unity and promote social cohesion within communities.
"Our cultural heritage is expressed through language, arts, and dances, it is expressed through our rituals and social norms, and it shapes our world view and forms a unique identity. This is what you have done, you have an identity. How do we know that your intent is unique from the others? It is through your language, rituals, practices, values, and norms, and the way you dress."
A leader of the |Gowanî Traditional Authority has called upon his community to investigate the origins of names such as #Khoaondawes and their meaning as part of cultural and tradition preservation.
