President Hage Geingob has called on all Namibians to play their part in the upcoming census.

Geingob made the call during the launch of the 2023 Population and Housing Census held at Statehouse.

The President says the census is not just a government initiative but a national endeavour in which every citizen has a crucial role to play.

Citizens, therefore, need to provide accurate information to produce reliable data.

"The success of the upcoming 2023 Population and Housing Census depends greatly on you, the sovereigns, who, through your active participation and cooperation, will determine not only its successful conclusion but subsequent planning and policy successes. Thus, cooperation from every segment of society, including all citizens from urban to rural areas, from town to village and settlement levels, is vital in achieving comprehensive, current, and inclusive data."

Census data, the President further says, will allow identification of areas that need improvement.

It also plays a pivotal role in monitoring progress towards national developmental goals.

"Moreover, census data plays a pivotal role in monitoring progress towards our development goals. Whether it is in education, healthcare, or infrastructure development, the Census provides us with the necessary benchmarks to measure our progress. It is a tool that keeps our government accountable to its promises and ensures that our nation's development is on track. Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making should not just be a commitment on paper but should be a commitment in action, and that is why we have also availed resources from our budget in a period of pressing economic needs, for the Census. Your role as citizens in this process is thus invaluable."
