The University of Namibia's Chancellor says the ratio between male and female graduates remains concerning and is a gap that needs to be closed.

Nangolo Mbumba was speaking at the UNAM Spring Graduation Ceremony in Windhoek.

In his address, UNAM Chancellor Nangolo Mbumba commended the university for constantly reviewing its curriculum.

He is, however, not impressed by the number of male graduates.

Vice Chancellor Professor Kenneth Matengu says education is not just obtaining a qualification but also to gain self-sustainability, shape character, and improve the competitiveness of the country.

He urged the graduates to be brave in making changes and bettering local communities.

789 students graduated during the spring graduation.

A total of 419 teachers and 31 human science students were awarded certificates, diplomas, degrees, masters, and PHDs.

Masters and PhDs constitute about 12% of all awards at the 2023 Spring Graduation, which is slightly lower than last year by about 1%.
