In a move aimed at enhancing internal security and ensuring credible national registration, Namibia and Zambia have embarked on a collaborative effort to share expertise and best practices in the fields of civil registration and identity management systems.

A high-level delegation from Zambia's National Registration, Passport, and Citizenship Department is in Namibia to engage in this knowledge-sharing initiative. 

The discussions encompass a wide range of topics, including an overview of the civil registration and vital statistics systems in both countries, architectural considerations, interoperability, the utilisation of software, biometrics, and authentication methods.

Etienne Maritz, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security in Namibia, emphasised the critical role of civil registration in enhancing internal security and ensuring credible national registration. 

He stressed the significance of having a robust system in place to secure the well-being of citizens and the nation as a whole.

On her part, Zambia's Registrar General, Brenda Kabemba, highlighted the importance of this joint cooperation between Zambia and Namibia.

Not only do these two nations share a common border, but they also have common interests, making this collaboration particularly meaningful.

The efforts to bolster their civil registration and identity management systems are expected to benefit both countries significantly.

This collaboration promises to lay the foundation for improved data management, more secure identity verification, and an overall enhancement of national security.
