The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform says it is working to ensure that there is water supply to communities in the Omusati, Oshikoto, and Ohangwena regions, as well as in Daures Constituency in the Erongo Region.
The communities have been experiencing challenges with water supply.
Tondoro Constituency in the Kavango West Region and Otjombinde in the Omaheke Region are also affected by water supply interruptions.
NamWater's Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer, Kadiva Hamutumwa, says water interruptions were caused by emergency maintenance on the Omahenene-Olushandja section of the Calueque canal in the Omusati Region last month.
The maintenance resulted in a decrease in the supply of untreated water to the Oshakati purification plant, which is a source of water supply downstream to the Oshikoto and Ohangwena regions.
"NamWater is working around the clock 24 hours a day to make sure that we are able to restore water to the Ohangwena and Oshikoto regions. It is planned and anticipated that as of tomorrow, November 5, 2023, we should be able to restore water within these two regions to their normal levels."
In a media statement, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Ndiyakupi Nghituwama, said the ministry is mobilising water tankers to provide water to the affected communities.
Emergency water supply is especially needed in the Oshikoto Region's Okankolo, Eengodi, and Nehale Lya Mpingana constituencies.
Nghituwamata says some water tankers have been sourced from other ministries and is assured that water will be made available to all.
