Namibia is celebrating the life of the remarkable Axali Jakobus Doëseb, who many agree left an indelible mark on the world of music and culture.

Axali Doëseb, born in 1954 in Okahandja, hailed from a musical family and was a prodigious talent in the field of music.

Doëseb's educational journey took him to the Musikschule Herford in Germany, where he earned a degree in music and furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a B.A. in Musicology from the University of Marlborough, United Kingdom.

His name is found in the government gazette, when he composed the national anthem of Namibia, "Namibia, Land of the Brave," which has been a symbol of our nation's unity and pride since 1991.

His contributions extended to conducting the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra, where his artistry touched the hearts of many.

In his tribute, President Hage Geingob said beyond Doeseb's musical endeavours, he was a respected figure and an advocate for the development of Namibian music and culture.

His gift for composing music not only united the nation but also resonated with people across borders.

Doeseb, an exceptional individual as many referred to him, once said that he still continues to experience a sense of astonishment whenever he listens to the national anthem.

In 2014, Doëseb was bestowed with the lifetime achievement award at the Namibian Music Awards, a well-deserved recognition of his immense talent and dedication to his craft.

He believed it was important to support the younger generation, and he made a valuable contribution through his teaching.

He also composed numerous school anthems.

''I felt that I needed to give back to the music industry and started teaching music to some of the youngsters here, and some are even graduating from different colleges.'

His recent honor was when he was dressed in traditional Damara clothing, which showcased his deep connection to the rich cultural tapestry of Namibia.

As the nation pays tribute to Axali Jakobus Doëseb, he is remembered not only for his musical genius but also for his humility, cultural contributions, and ability to bridge cultures through music.

His legacy will continue to inspire generations and serve as a reminder of the power of music to unite and uplift the human spirit.
