A group of concerned farmers residing on the outskirts of Gobabis are demanding usable agricultural land.
The farming community sought an audience with the regional leadership to address the issue, as farming within the municipal area is against the law.
The group spokesperson, Petrina Awa-Eieses, says that most farmers on Gobabis townlands are former farm workers who were dumped by their employers in town some years ago.
The farmer noted that this makes their farming very difficult as farming within the town boundary is against the law, and they cannot register their livestock with the Meat Board of Namibia as most of them do not have stock brands.
Hence, the farming communities are appealing to the regional leadership to assist them with a resettlement farm.
On his part, Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate informed the group that there are set criteria that should be followed for one to be resettled.
Furthermore, Nganate also appealed to farmers to change their farming techniques and be more innovative instead of just following traditional farming.
