Police Inspector General Joseph Shikongo says the force this year aims for excellence in the execution of its services.

Shikongo was speaking at the opening of the five-day leadership development training course at Tsumeb in Oshikoto Region.

Lieutenant General Shikongo expressed that training courses undertaken by top police officials across the country are crafted to ensure that the public is served efficiently and effectively.

"We have started with the journey that will influence not only our personal lives but also the direction of leadership in the Namibian Police Force going forward. This training course is not just a collection of vessels; it's a vessel where leaders are forged, tested, and refined to shine as beacons of inspiration in their respective units. Hence, we are not just individuals seeking to enhance our skills; we are a collective force for positive change."

The training will cover the role and importance of leadership, understanding group dynamics, resolving conflicts within team settings, crisis management, and leadership roles in emergencies.

"As you stand here today, envision the leaders you inspire others to become. Picture the impact you will make on the force, the communities, and the world at large. Preparing our force, preparing leaders, and training them capacitates them, and when you are capacitated here, you need to go back and capacitate your members."

Also speaking at the workshop were the Acting Executive Director for NIPAM, Nguvitjita Zatjirua, and the Oshikoto Police Commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku.

The course is being attended by the human capital management division and 20 deputy commissioners from across the country.
