Tributes have also been streaming in from the late President Hage Geingob's counterparts in the SADC Region.

One of the first tributes was from Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema.

He said Zambia and SADC have lost a true friend, a liberation icon, a distinguished diplomat, a senior African statesman, and an elder brother.

He added that Zambia's thoughts and prayers are with the widow, Monica Geingos, and her family, the Namibian people, and the entire African continent.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa also expressed condolences on the passing of President Geingob.

The message was delivered on his behalf by his spokesperson, Vincent Mangwena.

Tanzania too paid tribute through its president, Samia Suluhu, who said she was deeply saddened to learn of President Geingob's passing.

She described the late Dr. Geingob as a dear brother, a venerable Pan-Africanist, and a great friend of Tanzania's.

Neighbouring Zimbabwe's President Emerson Mnangagwa said President Geingob's leadership and resilience will be remembered, adding that Zimbabweans' thoughts are with Namibia during this difficult time.

Botswana's President, Mokgweetsi Masisi, said in a statement that Dr. Geingob was a true friend of Botswana and deeply valued his support in building an extraordinary partnership.

He directed that all flags fly at half mast throughout Botswana until President Geingob is buried.
