Members of Parliament in the National Council are calling for swift endorsement of both the High Court Amendment Bill and the Magistrates Court Amendment Bill.

This appeal is driven by the need to shield the public from the prospect of home forfeitures, a pressing concern exacerbated by provisions within the existing High Court Act 16 of 1990.

Swapo Party MP Olivia Hanghuwo underscored the imperative for timely action, emphasising that any delay in the passing of the two bills will persist in exposing debtors to losing their primary residences under the current legal framework.

Another Swapo Party MP, John Likando, suggested the implementation of measures that would allow family members to inherit the properties and cover the remaining costs, rather than resorting to repossession.
