Ohangwena residents commended the late Geingob's policies and social programmes, which benefited the majority of Namibian people, especially the elderly, and helped boost development.

During a candlelight vigil, residents say they have lost an exceptional individual who was a diplomat, teacher, researcher, prime minister, and president.

They vowed to honour his life and legacy of promoting unity, inclusivity, and solidarity.

Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitunga says as Namibians mourn the death of the late President, they should also celebrate his remarkable achievements and strive to follow in his footsteps for the good of future generations.

He says Namibia was fortunate to have Geingob as a leader, as he possessed exceptional qualities and always prioritised the well-being of citizens and the country.

"His contributions shall forever be engraved in our hearts as we bid farewell to a true hero of our nation. His firm commitment to our liberation struggle against colonial oppressors will continue to inspire generations to come. We shall always be indebted to his tireless efforts in defending our independence and upholding our democratic systems of governance, which he played an instrumental role in delivering."

Retired Oshana Regional Commander Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa also joined the lighting of candles at Eenhana and says he learned a lot from the late president's leadership qualities.

" His Excellency the late President Geingob, I know him from March 21, 1990, and I remember very well when I was the head of the personnel who were looking after the national leaders in this country. There are so many things that I have seen and learned from him. He was a great leader, and we lost a great leader. The country lost a great leader."

Young people, too, paid their tribute, Rinna Namundjembo, a resident of Ohangwena, says. I remember Dr. President as a visionary leader who unified the country, and he believed in empowering the youth in Namibia. In one of his town hall visits, I recall how he gave an opportunity to one of the youth leaders of the marginalised communities in the region, and he really gave him a platform to express herself, so he has his trust in the youth, saying nobody is too little to be trusted with a big responsibility. That is what I hold dear to my heart as my president, my leader."
