The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia continue to experience low blood stock due to the nation's heightened demand.

To address the shortage of this healthcare need and others, The Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia and the Namibia Oncology Centre will open a new blood donation center in Windhoek.

The partnership will support the nation's blood supply.

It will further ease the backlog burden and facilitate better care for patients battling various medical conditions such as cancer, ensuring that patients receive timely and adequate blood transfusions, needed for their treatment and recovery.

Marketing and Donor Relations Manager Zita Tobin, underscored the importance of the partnership, noting that it ensures sustainable and accessible blood supply across the nation, support routine medical procedures and life-saving treatments for patients with complex health conditions. 

16 percent of the blood by NAMBTS is for cancer patients.

The new blood donation centre is located at the Namibia Oncology Centre premises in Eros and will open its doors on Wednesday and every Wednesday thereafter. 

NAMBTS will further provide free transport for potential donors who would like to donate.
