The government is urging the international community, particularly the United Nations, to help find an impartial diplomatic solution that would lead to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. 

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, made an appeal in a statement. 

Dr. Mushelenga said Namibia is concerned over tensions in the Middle East. His concerns came following explosions in Iran that were attributed to Israel.

The minister said the current developments risk escalating into a broader conflict in the Middle East and beyond. 

This is why Namibia is calling for maximum restraint and not to aggravate the already fragile situation in the region. 

Dr. Mushelenga stressed that attacks, counterattacks, and threats of reprisals are counterproductive to peace, which all UN members pledged to uphold when they applied for membership.

He noted that Namibia's position is guided by its Constitution, which encourages the peaceful settlement of international disputes.

Last week, Iran launched missile and drone reprisal attacks on Israel for the attack on its diplomatic mission in Lebanon, in which seven of its top military officers were killed.

Israel promised to retaliate amid international concerns about the escalation of hostilities in the Middle East.

No reports of Namibian nationals in Israel or the affected areas have been received, and the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation advises those finding themselves there to take maximum precautions to ensure their safety.
