President Nangolo Mbumba has labelled the voter registration process as a license for Namibians to vote and elect representatives of choice at national, regional, and local government levels.
President Mbumba and First Lady Sustjie Mbumba, accompanied by their children and grandchildren, registered at MTC headquarters in Olympia to participate in the upcoming Presidential and National Assembly elections.
In full view of the rolling media cameras, the President and First Lady provided all the necessary details for the completion of the registration process.
The requirements include identity documentation, which they provided to the ECN officials for the process that lasted less than fifteen minutes.
President Mbumba observed that the registration process has been without hiccups so far and appealed to eligible Namibians to exercise their civic duty.
"This process was 15 minutes, and this is truly Namibian, to see that all the details about him or her are correct, and that is your license to exercise your right as a citizen to vote and elect either the organisation, the party, or the individual of your choice to represent you in the management of your municipality, your region, or the whole of Namibia."
The ECN announced that more than 4,200 registration points have been identified in all 121 constituencies.
For the First Lady, this should motivate all eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights in Namibia's eighth general election.
"Not only for the girl child, but for all the citizens of this country, let them come out and vote as we have never done before. Let it be a historic event," said Madam Mbumba.
In 2019, the ECN registered 1,358,468 voters.
The electoral body has in the meantime made it clear that registration dates cannot be extended, as sufficient provision has been made to ensure that no eligible voter is turned away from registering within the stipulated period.
