Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu was among the first people to register at the Katima Mulilo UNAM campus.

Voter registration started on time without reported challenges at various registration centres in the Zambezi Region.

Alufea Sampofu said that by registering as voters, residents will have a say in who their leaders will be for the next five years.

"We call upon all residents of Zambezi Region who are still here in Zambezi or elsewhere to register themselves. Today is the beginning of the registration, which will go up to August this year, so we encourage and appeal to all residents to register themselves."

Sampofu reminded Namibians to remember that the future of their country is in their hands, and registering to vote is one of the national responsibilities of citizens.

The Zambezi governor discouraged residents from waiting until the last minute but to act while there was enough time.

Some of those who registered expressed satisfaction with the process, adding that it was fast and not difficult.

However, as people were getting more and more at some registration centres, delays were experienced at the capture desk, where only one computer is used.
