Communities affected by the 1904–1908 Genocide hope to have the long-overdue negotiations finalised by the end of this year.

The four affected communities, the Ovahero, Nama, San, and Damara communities, said this at a media conference about the outcome of the Chiefs Meeting Forum held today.

This, they say, is to allow those affected to benefit from the joint declaration of more than 24 billion dollars in projects.

Members of the Technical Team of the Genocide Negotiations say the process that has been going on for about eight years, is long overdue, and affected communities need to benefit.

However, this does not mean due diligence will not be carried out based on recommendations from the affected communities.

There also ought to be a culture of constructive engagement, consultation, and regular reporting on ongoing negotiations and technical engagements.

The parties say the government should continue to seek input from traditional leaders and ensure the dissemination of information regarding negotiations and implementation.

The affected communities emphasised that the finalisation of the joint declaration does not mean the end of the negotiations, but to get Germany to commit.
