Workers of the Namibia Industrial Development Agency (NIDA), based at Kavango Cattle Ranch in the Kavango West Region, joined other NIDA employees on a strike demanding a salary increment.
The strike has been on for three days now.
According to the employees, the salary increment negotiations started last June with a request for a minimal salary increase of 8.12% according to job grades and a N$500 minimum wage for seasonal employees.
The employees are also demanding transport and housing allowances.
"The union engaged with the employer NIDA in order to resolve the issue of salary increment, whereby employees gave their proposal through the office of the union in order to negotiate in good faith and get a solution, whereby NIDA came up with zero percent on the table, and this has made the employees of NIDA across the country go on strike, and they are very serious about the strike, and the strike will carry on until such time that the employer NIDA will adhere to the demand of the employees," said NAFAU representative Poulus Mushongo.
