Nampol Inspector General Joseph Shikongo has emphasised the need for building trust and cooperation between the police and the public.

Lieutenant General Shikongo says law enforcement and crime prevention require community and solution-oriented policing.

Speaking at a police community engagement in Swakopmund, General Shikongo said community policing is meant to create an environment where police and the community can work together to identify and solve problems.

The police chief called for collaborative partnerships involving law enforcement agencies, individuals, communities, and organisations to fight crime successfully.

He urged the police to perform their duties with integrity to safeguard the community's trust in their work and service.

"We want to improve as an organisation, and we can only improve working with our community because if we put up police officers here driving with their vehicles, moving around, they will not do anything, and therefore we are also changing our strategies of doing things, putting more police in civilian clothes, and I order the police to start walking by foot. Why do they need the cars? Something is happening in Mondesa, and you are telling the people I don't have a car."
