Okatjali Constituency in the Oshana Region now boasts a new C-class police station constructed at a cost of close to N$5 million.

Okatjali police have been operating from a private structure donated by the Councillor of Okatjali, Joseph Mupetami.

The station consists of a charge office, two barracks with eight bedrooms, a two-bedroom house, a staff entertainment area, and a carport.

The construction of the station started in February of this year and was completed in May.

The police are allocated a four-by-four pickup to make it easy for the men and women in uniform to attend to public calls on time.

The Police Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, called on the community to work hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime and report all criminals, irrespective of family standing.

He also warned the public to refrain from buying stolen items, as this fuels crimes.

The police chief also called on the eight members who will be operating at Okatjali to demonstrate a high level of commitment and dedication and provide quality services to the people.

"Let us assist the community. Let us have no police boundaries for services. Sending people back must be something of the past. Let us serve our community. Let us bring service closer to the community; therefore, as police officers, you are expected to be disciplined, committed, loyal, and honest. You are supposed to be people with integrity."

Most crimes committed at Okatjali are domestic violence, assault, and stock theft. Still, Shikongo is happy that the women and men network and the youth against crime are working together with the police in the fight against crime.

Speaking at the same event, the former Police Inspector General and now Ohangwena Governor, Sebastian Ndeitunga, was pleased by the government's commitment to bringing services closer to the people.

"Our country is vast, the demand is overwhelming, and our resources are being built step by step, slowly but surely, to ensure that the government policy of bringing services closer to the people is realized."

Omukwaniilwa of the Ondonga Traditional Authority, Philemon Shuumba, wants headmen and women to report crimes that are committed in their jurisdictions.
