Residents of Okahandja's informal settlements spent the night at the Okahandja Municipality, demanding a meeting with Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, and Mayor Beatrice Koutogondo.

The residents stated that they will not move until the minister comes and addresses their concerns. They are expressing their frustration with being constantly sent from pillar to post.

The residents said they have been grappling with unfulfilled promises and deteriorating living conditions for 14 years since they moved here.

They say not even their demonstrations for the past six years, including the one two weeks ago notifying the council and the line ministry, gave them a listening ear.

They have been pleading for the provision of water, electricity, and serviced land and saying enough is enough.

Their frustrations are further fuelled by the fact that a plot that was established after theirs, has already received the resources they had been pleading for over several years.

Okahandja Councillor Natasha Brinkmann was unable to assist the dissatisfied community but shared the plans she initiated.

The residents have now decided to travel to Windhoek after allegedly being turned away by the authorities.
