Moses Ndjene, who slapped the Swapo Party branch coordinator Bonifatius Munango during a party event at Mix Settlement in April, has been granted bail of N$500.

Ndjene made his first court appearance today.

The incident sparked a surge of public interest after a video showing Ndjene slapping Munango went viral.

Although the incident happened in April, Ndjene was only arrested over the weekend and appeared in court today following Munango's decision to file a case against him.

When asked about the delay in the arrest and court procedures, the police explained that the investigation required a thorough review of witness statements.

The prosecutor determined that there was sufficient motive for the arrest, which is why it occurred at this time.

Ndjene pleaded not guilty to charges of intentionally assaulting Munango, and his case was postponed to the 17th of October.
