Former Omaheke Police Commander, Commissioner Andreas Haingura, is now the head of police in the Kavango East Region.

He has replaced Commissioner Johanna Ngondo, who is now the advisor in the Office of the Inspector General.

During the handing-over ceremony, Commissioner Ngondo reflected on her achievements for the past decade.

"The crime was manageable and under control despite the slight increases over the years. Reduction in certain crimes such as robbery, GBV, fraud, theft, and road accidents was 9% each. We have also observed decreases related to suicide, human-wildlife conflict, and docket clearance rate, which has improved to 64%. Our relationships and cooperation with various stakeholders, including Angola and Botswana, are enhanced and yield results."

In a speech read on behalf of the Police Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General for Administration, Major General Anna-Marie Nainda said the force is confident that Commissioner Haingura will deliver and free the Kavango East Region from the scourge and grips of crime.

"Commissioner Haingura is under instruction to place boots on the ground for crime prevention to intensify. You are further directed to develop new plans that will complement what is already in place to reduce crime and disorder, if at all in the region. Additionally, you have to reassess the state of investigations in this region to ensure that the quality of investigations improves and that dockets are presented before court for further prosecution."

The incoming regional commander assured the police force that he would hit the ground running.

"I will make sure that there are boots on the ground by engaging in crime prevention and problem-solving in this region. My vision for policing will be aligned with the vision of the Inspector General of NamPol as contained in the police force's strategic plan. Our policing activity and posture will be anchored on NamPol's strategic pillar of policing, building partnerships, and organisational excellence."

Commissioner Haingura will commence duties on 1 September 2024.
