Namibia has sent 14 representatives to France to compete in the 47th WorldSkills International Competition.

The team consists of seven regions and will participate in various technical and vocational skills competitions.

nbc's Emil Seibeb is in Lyon and caught up with Beatha Shinana, an expert who will be part of the judging panel.

Namibia hosted its National Skills Competition last year, and the winners of that competition have been chosen to represent the country at WorldSkills International, which is hosted in Lyon, France this year.

Over 1700 countries are participating in this year's competition, and in the Fashion Technology skill set, there are 27 representatives, including Namibia.

Fashion technology is one of the skills being showcased, and Namibia is represented by Beatha Shinana, an expert in this field.

On Monday, the competitors will be at the venue, and Shinana explains what is expected of them.

"Today we are just doing a mandatory assessment. That means that all aspects must be trained on how to assess. We will also provide an example of what we should assess and the activities that we have already done. Tomorrow is a familiarization day. The competitors will come to the site to be shown how to use the equipment. Then, they will practice for six hours to become familiar with the machinery they need."

WorldSkills provides a platform for vocational talents to flourish, creating a global network of dedicated professionals passionate about what they do. The competition will officially start on September 10 and run until September 15.
