||Kharas Regional Council members' termination averted

An urgent interdict court application seeking to reverse the termination of service of three members of the ||Kharas Regional Council was averted after the parties reached a settlement agreement.

The councillors in question, Lazarus Nangolo, Taimi Amakali, and Suzan Ndjaleka, all represent the Swapo Party.

The LPM-dominated council relieved the councillors of their duties without remuneration on January 25 for allegedly absconding council meetings and refusing to accept council management committee member positions.

NAFAU empowers workers' representatives

In an effort to equip shop stewards with the necessary skills to protect employees' rights at the workplace, the Namibia Food And Allied Workers Union concluded a two-day training workshop with workers' representatives from the Hardap and ||Kharas regions at Keetmanshoop.

The training was facilitated by the Labour Resource and Research Institute.

The two-day intensive training covered disciplinary hearings, grievance procedures, how to appeal, and understanding conciliation and arbitration processes.

Labour union representatives undergo training on violence and harassment at the workplace

Labor union representatives who completed a three-day workshop on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment at the Workplace, welcomed the ratification of Convention 190, which ensures zero tolerance for violence and harassment at the workplace.

Namibia became the first country in the world to start the process of ratifying Convention 190 of the International Labour Organization in 2020.

The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation is conducting the workshops with stakeholders.

ALAN representatives strategise on solving social ills

The network of female local authority leaders says the high level of poverty among women and gender-based violence are causes for concern.

The women leaders met at Rundu, under the umbrella of the Association of Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN), to discuss strategies on how to curb these social ills.

Among the issues discussed was the need for backyard gardens to ensure that families meet their household food needs and supplement their income.
