President Nangolo Mbumba has called on traditional authorities to educate their communities who will be participating in the upcoming general elections and do so in a free and peaceful manner.

Dr. Mbumba made this appeal at the five-day annual meeting of the Council of Traditional Leaders in Namibia, held in Windhoek.

He says through this, they would help maintain Namibia's good track record of conducting elections.

"We all have the important task of continuing with our democratic legacy. That in itself imposes responsibilities on all of us.Traditional leaders, it is your freedom and the freedom of your communities to vote for the persons of organisations of your choice, not dictated by the President who lives in Windhoek. I would like to state that Namibia will only meet its developmental aspirations if our traditional authorities continue to remain stable, reliable, and active participants in the local, regional, and national spheres of governance."

The Council of Traditional Leaders in Namibia too wants peaceful election campaigns leading up to the voting day.

Chairperson of the Council of Traditional Leaders in Namibia, Gaob Immanuel |Gaseb, said, "I encourage traditional leaders to avoid any form of violence and intimidation during the political campaigns. I hope we are all prepared to vote on November 2024 to ensure that peace and stability continue to prevail in our country."

Namibia has 53 recognized traditional authorities.
