The Otjozondjupa Region has won the 2024 MVA Fund National Schools Road Safety Debate Championship at Swakopmund.
The 14th MVA Fund National Debate Championship is aimed at promoting safe road user behaviour among learners.
Learners representing all 14 regions debated various road safety topics, with the teams from Otjozondjupa and Omusati reaching the finals.
The Otjozondjupa debaters opposed a proposal to remove privileges accorded to VIP convoys, while team Omusati argued that VIP convoys compromise public safety.
Otjozondjupa came out victorious, and the team was awarded N$30,000. The Omusati and Ohangwena regions secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Faith Mangwaza and Ricardo Shaningwa were awarded the Best Female and Best Male Speaker titles for their exceptional skills.
The MVA Fund's Jones Lutombi said the organisation's investment in the annual competition is based on the goals of promoting long-term behavioural change, early education, and conscious awareness.
Teachers, who coach the learners at no cost, were also awarded at the event, organised in partnership with the Namibian Schools Debating Association, together with the education ministry.
