The town of Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region is facing a serious water crisis, with many residents experiencing days, or even a week, without any water.

Henock Simon, a local resident, shared his frustrations, saying he has never seen water shortages like this before. 

"For many years, the people of Omuthiya have struggled with this problem. There is only one place in the centre of town where water is always available. However, getting water from this source comes at a cost. Residents have to pay N$2.50 for every 20 litres of water they take," said Simon.

Simon further stressed that situations like this are difficult for families, especially those who cannot afford to pay for water, as they often worry about how they will get enough water for drinking, cooking, and washing.

The lack of water also affects daily life and makes it hard for children to go to school.

The community in Omuthiya hopes for a solution to this ongoing crisis.

They want reliable and affordable access to water, which is a basic need for everyone.
