President Nangolo Mbumba says it is refreshing that citizens now live in an era in which they have the opportunity to tell their own stories and to appreciate the narratives of Namibians as told from their own perspective.
Dr. Mbumba said this as he launched the book written by Secretary to Cabinet, George Simataa, in Windhoek on Thursday.
The memoir, titled 'Timeless: My Career in the Public Service', chronicles Dr. Simataa's journey in the various capacities he served since Namibia's independence.
President Mbumba stated, "The value of preserving our history cannot be overstated. Recorded personal, family, and public histories give us a sense of who we are, where we come from, and where we are going. For too long, we have had our stories told by others from far afield who have narrated our history from their perspective and with their beliefs and prejudices.".
He says Dr. Simataa is a product of the system which he believes will articulate the history of the Civil Service and the various transformations that have taken place in terms of administrative governance throughout the years.
The President endorsed the book, which many other public servants, politicians, and Namibians from all walks of life can identify with, saying that there will be something of particular interest to everyone, which will rouse certain feelings, inspire, or take one down memory lane.
