The High Court has set aside the suspension of Karasburg Town Council political office bearers, declaring it unlawful.
The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, dissolved the entire council without remuneration in March this year.
At the time, Uutoni cited a litany of violations against the Local Authorities Act and non-compliance with ministerial directives by the council as reasons for his decision.
The councillors who were axed are Maria Veldskoen, Fransiskus Skeyer, Josef Witbooi, Gregorius Ruhl, Onesmus Mupiya, Elia Hawanga, and Frieda Hamutenya.
Following a court application lodged by Veldskoen, Skeyer, Witbooi, and Ruhl to have their suspension rescinded, the court declared their suspension unlawful, null and void, reviewed, and set aside.
The application is unopposed, although the respondents, including Minister Uutoni, Mupiya, Hawanga, Hamutenya, and Elize Laubscher, whom the minister appointed as interim administrator of the council, were served in August.
They had until 18 September to oppose the application.
