The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) has officially unveiled its final list of candidates for the National Assembly elections, revealing a mix of presidential nominations.

While some prominent figures have secured favourable positions, others have been relegated down the list.

The top 12 names from PDM's parliamentary list include McHenry Venaani, Winnie Moongo, Ricky Vries, Rosa Mbinge-Tjiuendo, Inna Hengari, Nico Smit, Sydney Ndumbah, Geoffrey Mwilima, Jennifer van der Heever, Max Katjimune, Sonja Smith, and Roger Nautoro.

At the recent electoral college, several candidates emerged as strong contenders based on their performances.

However, some of the high achievers found themselves lower on the final candidate list.

Among those elevated by Venaani's parliament nomination is journalist-turned-politician Sonja Smith.

Smith, alongside Moongo and Hengari, needed the PDM leader's endorsement to climb up the ranks.

In contrast, Hidipo Hamata, a current parliamentarian, experienced a significant drop in his ranking.

Parliamentarian Elma Dienda has also been nominated by Venaani, although her participation in the electoral college remains unclear.

The PDM has also announced that it will submit a single, finalised list to the Electoral Commission of Namibia.

This move marks a shift from the party's previous electoral challenges, where it faced legal repercussions for altering its candidate list.

Party Secretary General Manuel Ngaringombe emphasised the importance of this single submission to avoid the legal pitfalls of the past.

Aggrieved candidates and members have 72 hours to raise objections to the list.
