The United States and Namibia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on renewable energy development.

The agreement focusses on clean energy sources such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen.

The MOU's objective is to expand America's role in Namibia's energy sector. It demonstrates the United States' commitment to partnering with Namibia to ensure energy security, increase energy access, and advance efforts to position the country as a clean energy leader.

The United States Ambassador to Namibia, Randy Berry, said the agreement underscores their commitment to Namibia's sustainable economic growth and industrialisation.

"This MOU marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to strengthen our bilateral relationship and enhance cooperation in the energy sector. Energy is a critical component of sustainable development and economic growth. Under this agreement, we will share expertise and resources to promote Namibia's energy security, expand and diversify energy sources, and support Namibia's vision of becoming a net exporter of renewable energy and a regional leader in clean energy solutions."

The agreement will strengthen bilateral relations and enhance the energy sector, contributing to economic growth for both countries, according to Berry.

Namibia's Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo, emphasised that the two countries will continue to strengthen their relationship.

He noted that the MOU holds potential to significantly enhance Namibia's energy sector.
