The City of Windhoek has resolved to give land ownership to the Habitat self-help group.

The hundred-member group has been requesting the municipality for the title deeds for years.

About 25 years ago, the group built 120 houses in Katutura's Hakahana residential area.

The members have no deeds of sale as the land belonged to the City of Windhoek.

Following the nbc News report on the matter last month, the group is now in the process of acquiring the title deeds at its own cost.

Community activist Renciah !Gaes shared the latest good news in this regard.

"The community is happy with the outcome they got from Mr. Manda last Friday. That group will be approved for land-hold title. The only thing is that they have to pay for it themselves. Mr. Manda also said that we should approach the city council for the payment of group members to be financed it, and I have told the group just now that they should approach the city council; if they can't, then they have to take out the money."

Some members are still struggling to find the funds for the transfer, which range from N$3,000 to N$4,000.

They are, however, glad that they can have a piece of land registered in their names.

The shared municipal bill is another challenge the group faces, as some members have not been paying and the account has, as a result, since skyrocketed to N$4 million.

With title deeds, the members will be able to have individual water accounts.
