Namibians are encouraged to honor the exemplary legacy of anti-colonial leader Chief Hosea Kutako with the inauguration of the Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine at Toasis Village.

The Presidency has announced that the Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine will be unveiled on November 8th.

The decision to construct the Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine stemmed from late President Hage Geingob's numerous visits to the homestead, driven by a desire to provide a fitting tribute.

Dr. Geingob sought endorsement for this project at the second national land conference in 2018, with construction commencing three years later.

"Last year, President Geingob visited the homestead and met with his friend Ondangere. He was pleased with the progress made, but following the sad passing this year, President Mbumba has taken on the responsibility for the inauguration, among other tasks," the statement noted.

This honor acknowledges the values and ideals that Chief Kutako championed, aiming to unite Namibians from all backgrounds in the fight against colonial injustices.

Regarded as the father of Namibian nationalism, Kutako played a crucial role in mobilizing resistance against colonial oppression.

"President Mbumba is calling on all Namibians to reflect solemnly on the legacy of Chief Kutako, a leader who belonged not to any single ethnic group but to all Namibians. It was Chief Kutako who assisted the Founding Father in going into exile; it was Chief Kutako who supported President Geingob in his exile; and it was Chief Kutako who led the petition for Namibia's independence. This role transcends any ethnic group and deserves celebration on November 8th by all Namibians."

The Memorial Museum will showcase the traditional way of life of local communities through a living museum and various artifacts.

A bust of Chief Kutako, along with other historically significant items related to his legacy, will also be unveiled.

The Presidency is appealing to all Namibians to embrace the honor bestowed on Chief Kutako.

"President Nangolo Mbumba invites Namibians who cannot attend in person at Toasis to follow the proceedings through various platforms, honoring the significant contributions Chief Kutako made to our nation. He was a unifier, a leader who brought together Namibians from all walks of life, and it is this legacy that the Namibian government is commemorating through the inauguration of the Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine."

It is anticipated that the Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine will also boost tourism initiatives in the Aminius Constituency.

These sites will be managed by government agencies responsible for preserving national heritage.

"The Chief Hosea Kutako Shrine will be open to the public at the appropriate time, providing tremendous opportunities for the people of Aminius, the surrounding region, and other Namibians. We must embrace this facility as it opens yet another chapter in our history as a nation."

The unveiling of the Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine coincides with the opening of the Aminuis Road.
