Quoting the words of the late President, "It is only through education that the son of a farm worker can become the country's president," the Minister of Information and Communication Technology inaugurated upgraded facilities at Suiderhof Primary School in Windhoek.
The school's computer and science labs, as well as the library, have been refurbished with new equipment, including smart boards.
This project was made possible through contributions from parents and the community.
The revamped science lab, valued at over N$800,000, is equipped with a smart board and educational materials, including science tubes and preserved animals for study purposes.
Additionally, the school unveiled a computer lab, also valued at N$800,000, featuring state-of-the-art equipment, along with a renovated library, three new classrooms, and modern ablution facilities.
Minister of ICT Emma Theofelus emphasized the significance of ICT in the digital age and its role in learner development.
"The issues of the fourth industrial revolution require that the classroom of 1994 cannot resemble the classroom of today, which needs technological advancements for 2024. This demands more resources, skills training, and equipment that will facilitate the future of work and skills development. I am very pleased that we are inaugurating these essential facilities today, Mrs. Similo, along with the leadership of the board and the dedicated teachers who are guiding the future of Namibia."
These upgrades, made possible through the generous support of parents and the community, will enhance the educational experience for learners.
The Deputy Director for Education, Paulus Lewin, spoke on behalf of the educational sector.
"The theme of this event—nurturing a generation of future leaders through education—reflects our ministry's commitment to investing in children's education. It highlights our willingness to address both the emotional and social aspects of learning in order to develop both intellect and character and impart knowledge and values that will lead Namibia into a prosperous future."
Principal Alna Similo praised the contributions of parents and the community, noting that these new facilities will equip students with essential skills for the future.
"Parents, your involvement and belief in our school are invaluable. Thank you for your partnership and support, which empower us to provide the best learning environment for your children. Your trust in our decisions and active participation in school activities strengthen the community."
