Land ownership for the |Khomanin people remains a sensitive issue that requires urgent attention. Gaos of the |Khomanin, Juliana Gawa!Nas, made this statement during the annual |Khomanin Festival held at Baumgartsbrunn over the weekend.
"We have land; those who say we do not simply do not understand. God did not place anyone on earth without land. The land you see around here holds the graves of our elders, and that is proof. Our elders built the houses you see on the farms, and once those houses were no longer needed, they were forced out. This cycle continues. When will we wake up?"
The annual festival, attended by various traditional authorities, aimed to promote culture and engage in traditional activities such as dance, singing, and visiting the ancestral graveyard.
Gaob of Dâure Daman Traditional Authority, Sagarias Seibeb, urged the Damara clans to unite for the benefit of their people. "If we do not stand together, we must forget about Damara unity. If we do not gather like this at festivals, we must forget about Damara discussions. Our existence is demonstrated by our actions, and we are showing others that we do not exist."
