Support for the various political parties and presidential candidates has been fluctuating in past elections.

In 2014, Swapo won with 86%, while the closest opposition contender managed 9%.

In that same year, nine presidential candidates contested the elections, while 16 political parties took part in the National Assembly elections, while in 2019, 11 candidates vied for the presidency and 15 parties took part in the NA elections.
