The Oshana Regional Electoral Office in Oshakati is making final preparations to ensure a smooth Presidential and National Assembly Election next Wednesday.
The region's election team has secured 100% of the cars they required and half of the rest of the logistics and equipment they have asked the public to provide.
Oshana was one of the best regions, with an election registration coverage of about 96 percent out of a population of about 130,000.
The region will have 182 fixed polling stations and 42 mobile stations that will require efficient logistics and equipment support.
"We needed about 260 vehicles that we had to secure. So far we need about 60 generators, but as you can see, people are still dropping them off. Generators, we have secured about half of them. So far we are dealing with the receiving of tents, chairs, and tables. 50% of those are covered, and 100% of vehicles are secured so far," said Amon Oiva Haimbangu, the Regional Electoral Officer.
About 1,300 polling officers have been undergoing training in the last two weeks and had to sit for the final exam to test their competence.
As planned, the deployment of polling officers will commence on the 25th of November and be completed the next day, a day before the actual elections.
"We had our training of polling officers going on. It started about a week ago; today is day 8. We are concluding the training. Everything went well as planned. We are happy to say that everything is ready. We hope that two days before we finish the training, everybody will be ready and prepared to conduct the elections."
