Chaos erupted in Otjomuise Nine this afternoon after a group of residents attempted to grab land.

The spokesperson of the group, Desmond Thudinyane, who encouraged the land-grabbing attempt, stated that the action was meant to draw attention to the residents’ long-standing issues, which they feel have been ignored.

The group further demands a taxi rank to be constructed in their area, access to potable water, and better sanitation.

Meanwhile, the City Police have called on residents to follow the proper procedures for acquiring land, emphasising that land grabbing is illegal.

The officers informed the group that they were there to do their job and that grabbing land is not the solution to their problems.
