The United Nations World Food Program (WFP), funded by the Government of the Republic of Korea, has launched a commodity voucher program worth US$500 000 to assist drought-affected communities in Namibia.
The initiative will benefit 24,500 people in the Hardap Region, and the Zambezi Region, additionally 3,500 children.
At the handover ceremony, Ambassador Kwang-Jin Choi reaffirmed Korea's commitment to Namibia, building on support provided during the 2019 drought. Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni expressed gratitude, emphasizing the program’s impact on thousands of vulnerable families.
With 1.2 million Namibians—40% of the population—facing food insecurity, the program offers critical relief, highlighting the power of international partnerships in addressing Namibia’s ongoing drought crisis.
